Bennerley Site

At Bennerley we support permanently excluded pupils from schools in the Amber Valley and Erewash area. We also support several Dual Registered pupils who are at risk of being permanently excluded from their education provider.

Our primary function is to support permanently excluded pupils back into mainstream education or to support them into other suitable educational settings. Many pupils arrive with poor levels of functional skills in English, Maths and Reading. Some have SEN that may require further investigation.

All our lessons focus on improving core functional standards in literacy and numeracy. As a result, all learning is personalised to ensure that students are ready for their future education – whether this is to return to mainstream or attend another educational setting.

Each curriculum area aims to enrich pupils’ experiences within education and identify barriers that may exist. Teachers and Support Staff work together to identify appropriate strategies to enhance learning at a pupil level and remove any existing or potential barriers to progress.

Great focus is placed on Personal, Social and Health Education to help pupils to develop in wider social contexts and build self-esteem.

Small group learning, 1:1 intervention and mentoring allow pupils to quickly reflect on their work and character and set aspirational targets for the future. Even though we mainly operate as a Key Stage three site we still work hard to provide a wide range of qualifications to all pupils. At Bennerley we believe in validating a pupil’s time with us. A wide range of AQA, OCR and Edexcel Entry Level Qualifications are on offer. We also run other qualifications such as ASDAN, Junior Climbing Awards, Sports Leader and the Junior First Aiders award.
